Since 1994 Geoff has worked as an independent organisational consultant and educator under the banner of Hermes Consulting, helping clients develop their ability to embrace the paradoxes inherent in leading complex organisations and helping them staying sane in the process. He has four grown up children, three grandchildren and an entirely unreasonable love of Morgan sports cars.
Geoff is a graduate of the School of Storytelling (2002) and passionate about stories and storytelling. He has taken his work on “storytelling and narrative leadership” into a wide variety of organisational settings including: Air BP, BAE Systems, Malvern Programme, Civil Service Top Management Programme, Capita, Deloitte, PriceWaterhouseCoopers, Universities of Bath, Oxford and Surrey, Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs, National Health Service, National School of Government, and Public Service Management Wales. He regularly performs traditional stories and teaches storytelling at venues in UK and as far afield as Spain and Japan. In 2007, Geoff co-founded the Centre for Narrative Leadership, a not-for-profit organisation established to develop the field of storytelling and narrative leadership in organisations.
Geoff has created or co-created leadership development programmes in a range of contexts, including the national police Accelerated Promotion Scheme and latterly the Cabinet Office (The Public Service Leaders Scheme and Leaders UK). He completed an MBA at Henley Management College in 1991 and a PhD in action research in 2002 at University of Bath. He is an associate tutor at the National School of Government and a visiting research fellow at the University of Bath where he teaches and supervises mature PhD students.
